Rainhill High has achieved the Excellence in Pupil Development Award in recognition of the excellent personal development curriculum it offers, which supports the development of pupils’ personal attributes and attitudes, such as self-confidence, resilience and self-discipline. It also recognises the School’s focus on involving local and national organisations as part of its personal development curriculum.
Headteacher, Josie Thorogood stated, “we are delighted to have achieved this award, which demonstrates our commitment to achieving our mission statement ‘in pursuit of excellence’. Our core values of learn, think, contribute and care clearly align to the achievement of this award and illustrate our commitment to providing the best possible education to our pupils so they are primed for future success.”
The audit reviewer made several very positive comments about Rainhill High’s approach as part of their audit visit, including: “There are well developed systems in place to quality assure personal development”, “A strength of the school is the wide range of student leadership roles where student voices can be heard. These roles help develop important key life and employability skills and students’ perspective is regularly used to inform school policy and practice” and “Students spoke with enthusiasm about their roles in the school parliament, being part of the anti-bullying group and taking part in the Year 10 mock interviews. They described the school as ‘inclusive, ‘everyone has a voice’ ‘enriching’ and ‘full of opportunities”
One Rainhill High Parent commented, “the school is great and I’m proud my son goes there” whilst another parent described how her son’s attitude had “substantially improved since starting school because he was now willing to have a go”.
Personal Development Assistant Headteacher, Pete Roberts, said “we are delighted and very proud to have received this award as we feel it recognises the lengths we go to, in order to support our students and give them the best possible chance of success in the future.
